[edit] Overview

The Content Explorer is a built-in Content management tool in Sense/Net 6.0, modeled after the user interface of the well-known Windows Explorer. It allows for simple editing of Contents, support for versioning, and single-click uploading of multiple files from the local file system.

The vision behind the Content Explorer is "what you see is what you get", so every button and icon should work as you would expect them to work.

Information:
Note however, that the concept of Folders in the Sense/Net Content Repository is quite different from that in Windows or other well-known operating systems. In the Repository, Folders are considered Content, and various types of Content (Sites or Pages, for example) can act as Folders. Thus, there is no "Create Folder" button in the Explorer. You can create new Folders through the "New Content" wizard.

Some UI features uncommon in web applications:

  • Double clicks - The Content Explorer can handle double clicks. Similar to Windows, you can open files and folders with a double click.
  • Multiple file selection - Hold down "shift" or "ctrl" to make multiple file selections.
  • Single-click multiple uploads - You can use the Content Explorer to upload multiple files from your local computer in a few simple and quick steps.

[edit] Basic usage

As you can see, the interface of the Content Explorer is divided into three panels. On the leftmost panel, you can see the folders of the portal in a clear tree-structure. This tree view is hierarchically structured and alphabetically ordered. Folders can be expanded by clicking on the small + button next to their names.

Clicking a folders on this panel will display its content in the middle panel. This view in turn shows all the Contents in the selected folder.

The right panel contains the Data Sheet of the selected Content. You can select a Content (Folder or file) to be displayed here by clicking on it in the middle panel. This Data sheet will allow the reading and editing of the content with versioning and security tools.

The buttons for creating, moving and deleting Content can be found on the toolbar, which is situated above the main section:
