[edit] Overview

The Portal Remote Control is a tool for simple, local operations on your portal (management of content, design, structure and operation) and also your entry point to the Content Explorer.

With a click of the mouse you can create, delete or edit pages and subpages, publish new content, and so on. It is just as easy and straightforward to use as the remote control of your hi-fi system at home. No need to bother yourself with browsing the help files for hours: we created it to be simple and intuitive.

[edit] Opening the Portal Remote Control

  1. Make sure that you are logged in to the portal as an Administrator, or otherwise have write permissions for the Page you are viewing.
  2. Click the Portal Remote Contol icon in the upper right corner of your browser window.
  3. A transparent menu pops up - this is the PRC menu. You can drag it across your browser window as you see fit, similarly to a dialog window in the operating system.
  4. You can close the PRC by clicking the X mark in the upper right corner of the menu. Once it has closed, the PRC icon will appear again.

[edit] Operating the Portal Remote Control

As stated above, operating the PRC is intuitive and simple. Most of the commands that appear in the menu correspond to the page currently displayed in your browser.

[edit] Creating and Deleting Pages

  • New subpage - Creates a new subpage under the page currently displayed.
  • Delete page - Deletes the page currently displayed.

[edit] Editing pages

  • Check-out - Checks out the page currently displayed.
  • Undo check-out - Discards changes made since the last Check-out.
  • Check-in - Checks in the page currently displayed. (If checked out.)
  • Publish - Publishes the page currently displayed. In None and Major only versioning modes, this is equivalent to a Check-in.
  • Edit page datasheet - Opens the metadata sheet of the page for editing.
  • Edit mode - Switches the page into Edit mode, allowing Portlets to be added, removed, configured and moved. If the page hasn't been checked out, switching into Edit mode will also do the check-out.
  • Add portlet - Adds a new portlet to the current page. If the page isn't in Edit mode already, adding a new portlet also switches into Edit mode.
